The city will pick up light debris that is being cleaned up by the homeowner and homeowners that need help should contact the city for pickup, or us for help.
Some companies have charged for take down and cleanup, leaving the debris in the right of way for the city, so they are essentially ripping people off.

Cherokee Residents Urged to use Caution when oprating Chains Saws. Storm damage can be reported to 678-493-4059.

Currently the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management, GEMA, and the National Weather Service are conducting damage assessments from yesterday’s tornado. The National Weather Service will be conducting a Press Conference at the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Headquarters at 2pm.

Cherokee County Roads and Bridges is urging residents not to place storm debris on the sides of the road. That agency will not be removing debris that has been deposited in the right of way.

Residents are urged to use caution when operating chainsaws. OSHA chainsaw safety tips are as follows:

-Clear away dirt, debris, small tree limbs and rocks from the saw’s chain path. Look for nails, spikes or other metal in the tree before cutting.
-Shut off the saw or engage its chain brake when carrying the saw on rough or uneven terrain.
-Keep your hands on the saw’s handles, and maintain secure footing while operating the saw.
-Proper personal protective equipment must be worn when operating the saw, which includes hand, foot, leg, eye, face, hearing and head protection.
-Do not wear loose-fitting clothing.
-Be careful that the trunk or tree limbs will not bind against the saw.
-Watch for branches under tension, they may spring out when cut.
-Gasoline-powered chain saws must be equipped with a protective device that minimizes chain saw kickback.
-Be cautious of saw kick-back. To avoid kick-back, do not saw with the tip. If equipped, keep tip guard in place.

Storm damage can be called into 678-493-4059. That information will be referred to assessment teams.

The City of Woodstock is set to begin work on repaving the main entrance way to Brookshire on Ashland Parkway beginning on Tuesday May 31. Expect heavy delays as there will be only one lane open for exit and entrance to the subdivision during these times. The paving will take approximately four days to complete and we will update with any delays to or changes in schedule.

The initial phase of the project will cover the main entrance to the first stop sign. The exit towards the interchange will be paved, however the top coat will be left off, to be completed when they finish the road improvements with the interchange.

Greetings,

This is your PACT officer, Ron Sinfelt here. I would like to take a few minutes to give you an update on few tips for residents as it relates to summertime criminal activity in your community.

Schools in the surrounding counties are on the cusp of being released, so the neighborhoods will be populated with juveniles throughout the daytime hours. Keeping this in mind, please remind residents to try to be watchful of their speed in and out of the neighborhood. Summertime often brings complaints of vehicles “nearly missing” young children. On the subject of juveniles, the state statute on unruly juveniles provides some legal guidelines for young ones being out at night. A second specific summer issue is juveniles (those under 17) being out on public streets or property (unsupervised) between midnight and 5 am. While everyone wants our youth to enjoy their summer freedom, we receive a large volume of calls concerning juveniles loitering at night. I’d greatly appreciate all notice you could provide to your residents on this issue.

Also, please remind residents that summer time usually brings an overall uptick in criminal activity. Having said this, a great deal of summer time crime is preventable. Woodstock Police recommends residents of all neighborhoods to be vigilant in locking home and car doors and securing all windows. Please remind citizens that securing their home and vehicle(s) is a proactive step that greatly increases the likelihood that they will not be a victim of crime.

As always, please let residents know they are always encouraged to dial 911 at the first sign of suspicious activity. I also encourage residents to post any suspicious activity online at our Nation of Neighbors page (a link from the Woodstock Site). While Nation of Neighbors is never a replacement for dialing 911, this online community is a great medium for alerting the community of potential criminal activity around them. Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any concerns residents may have. Finally, I am more than happy to come to resident meetings to help educate citizens about neighborhood watch, preventing crime, and all concerns they may have.

Thank you for your help in making Summer 2011 a safe one!
